Calculate your final grade based on assignments, exams, and their weights

About Grade Calculator

The Grade Calculator is a tool that helps students determine their final course grade based on individual assignments, exams, projects, and their respective weights in the final grade calculation.

How to Use the Grade Calculator

  1. Enter Assessment Information: For each graded item (exam, assignment, etc.), enter the item name, your score, and the percentage weight it carries in your final grade.
  2. Add Additional Items: Click "Add Another Item" to include all graded components that contribute to your final grade.
  3. Check Weight Distribution: Make sure the total weight of all items sums to 100%. The calculator will warn you if the weights don't add up correctly.
  4. Calculate: Click the "Calculate Final Grade" button to see your weighted average grade and corresponding letter grade (if applicable).

Grade Calculation Formula

The final grade is calculated using the weighted average formula:

Final Grade = (Item1Score × Item1Weight + Item2Score × Item2Weight + ... + ItemNScore × ItemNWeight) / 100

Example Calculation

Consider a course with these graded components:

  • Midterm Exam: Score 85/100, Weight 25%
  • Final Exam: Score 78/100, Weight 35%
  • Assignments: Score 92/100, Weight 20%
  • Project: Score 88/100, Weight 15%
  • Participation: Score 95/100, Weight 5%

The final grade would be calculated as:

(85 × 0.25) + (78 × 0.35) + (92 × 0.20) + (88 × 0.15) + (95 × 0.05)

= 21.25 + 27.3 + 18.4 + 13.2 + 4.75

= 84.9 (which rounds to 85, or a B grade on the standard scale)
